WACO - The 40-mph winds had died down a bit, but that didn't mean Belton was going to let up any.
Improving on their Day 1 performance by 13 strokes, the Belton Tigers rolled to the District 12-5A golf championship, holding off Bryan 647-658 on Tuesday at Waco's Twin Rivers Golf Club.
"It was a survival test (March 31) in that wind, ... (and) I told the kids that if we went out there and basically survived with a 325, we're going to have a nice lead," Belton golf coach Jim Hellums said. "Today we got back closer to what we normally do - we still made a few mistakes - but we got back on track."
Setting the pace for Belton was Andrew Paysse, who finished second individually with a two-day total of 154 (75-79), ahead of teammates Nick Ratliff (161), Preston Parker (165), Zach Plunk (174) and Travis Hites (177).
Copperas Cove was led by Drew Dewald (169), who was named to the all-district team. Also competing for the Bulldawgs were Hayden Parsley (179), Hunter Weimeher (196) and Oliver Rodriguez (215).
None of the Dawgs advanced to the Region II-5A tournament. Harker Heights' Logan Fox advanced as a medalist after finishing sixth overall.
The top two teams and top two individuals not associated with them will return to Twin Rivers for the regional tournament April 21-22.
