With three first-place finishes, the Bulldawgs edged Shoemaker for the Five Hills Powerlifting Meet team championship at S.C. Lee Middle School on Saturday.

Copperas Cove finished with 37 points, just ahead of the Grey Wolves' 35. Harker Heights came in fourth with 21 points.

Chase Foster and Will Wright paced the Dawgs by winning the 148-pound and 165-pound weight classes, respectively. In the three events - squat, bench press and dead lift - Foster lifted 1,115 pounds while Wright notched 1,210.

In the 114-pound to 165-pound weight group, Foster and Wright finished second and third overall. The calculation is done using the Schwartz totals, a mathematical method for determining the strength of a person "pound-for-pound."

Ken Hughes, in the 198-pound class, also finished first for Cove with a lift of 1,270 pounds. The Dawgs also got a a second-place performance by D. Purvis (123-pound class) to go along with third place efforts by A.J. Mackey (above 275) and T. David (123). Isaiah Buckram (220) also put points on the scoreboard with a fourth-place finish.

The Lady Dawgs finished in third place thanks to two second-place performances from Teneshia Abney and Sasha Mee. Jinea Witter put points on the board with a fourth-place showing.
