TEMPLE — Temple’s troubles with serve reception played a major role in a 25-13, 25-9, 25-16 loss to Georgetown East View at Wildcat Gym on Tuesday.

“We’re just not moving our feet on serves,” Temple setter Angel Rivera said. “We just had first-home-game nerves.”

What the Patriots (7-0) did and the Tem-Cats (1-9) didn’t do on serves fueled East View runs in every game.

Temple hung tough early in Game 1, but the tide changed when East View went on a 10-0 run with nine consecutive service points by Kayla Anderson to take a 20-8 lead. Anderson also had four assists in the opening game, and Keysha Shanklin had four kills.

East View closed out Game 2 with an 18-2 run, sparked by five straight service points by Emilie Baker. Shanklin had six kills, while the Tem-Cats had five service errors. Calli Novak had six straight service points in Game 3, including two aces, to help East View build a 21-8 lead.

First-year Temple coach Tim McDonald was fine with his players being a little nervous but hopes they can cut down on mistakes, particularly while receiving serve.

“(Nerves show) that they care about winning,” McDonald said. “If they weren’t nervous, I would be worried.”
