The Ellison Eagles were defeated 47-31 by Waco Midway on Saturday night.
“I wasn’t happy with anything about this game,” said Ellison head coach Alberto Jones, Jr.
The contest was played at Killeen High School due to a scheduling conflict at Ellison’s gym.
The score was 7-7 after one quarter. Midway led 27-18 at halftime and 37-27 after three quarters.
On Friday night, Ellison’s 19-year streak of making the playoffs ended. The Eagles were eliminated from the 2014 postseason due to Copperas Cove’s home win over Killeen.
“Our kids knew we were out of the playoffs, and then they played tonight like we were out of the playoffs,” Jones said. “I saw nothing positive about this game. Waco Midway played a lot better than us.”
Ellison was led in scoring by Ronnie Edwards with eight points and Isaiah Stevenson had seven.
Ellison’s District 8-5A record fell to 5-8 (14-15 overall).
Forward DeShune Way led Midway in scoring with 14 points. The Panthers upped their district record to 6-7 (16-14 overall).
To earn a postseason bid, Midway must beat Temple in Waco and hope host Shoemaker defeats Copperas Cove. In such a scenario, Cove and Midway would tie for the fourth and final playoff spot and force a play-in contest to determine who moves onward.
Ellison’s final contest is Tuesday night at Belton.
