At San Marcos, the Lady Eagles' pressure defense held Austin Westlake and Kyle Lehman under 40 points as they won the San Marcos Tournament.
“I felt we used our full-court pressure well and we forced a lot of turnovers and it led to a lot of easy baskets,” Ellison coach Sherry McKinnon said. “Our defense was stellar and I was pretty pleased with that after Christmas break.”
The No. 11 Lady Eagles (21-3) defeated Lehman 53-34 in the championship game behind 18 points from Codi Simmons and 11 from Jordanna Porter. Ellison outscored Lehman 11-5 in the first quarter and never looked back.
But Ellison was even more dominant in its win over Westlake.
The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Chaparrals 21-9 in the first quarter and 20-8 in the second in the blowout win. Porter hit three 3-pointers and scored 24 points in the win. Simmons had 15 points and Kaitlyn Shearer added 12.
