William De Gracia saw fear in his teams eyes, and he did not like it one bit.

After Ellison opened play at the Gatesville tournament by beating Florence 25-20, 25-21, the Lady Eagles had a letdown against Dublin, blowing a first-set victory to lose in three, 18-25, 25-20, 28-26.

“There is no way you are going to be champions by playing scared,” he said. “If they are scared, they shouldn’t be playing at this level. But my girls want it, they are really hungry to win, and they work hard for it.It was a lesson learned.”

The Lady Eagles (10-4) passed their next test, defeating Travis in lopsided fashion 25-11, 25-8 to advance to the seventh-place bracket, where they will face Gatesville Gold on Saturday at 8 a.m. The winner advances to play the winner between Llano and Travis at 1 p.m. with the losers playing at noon. Although he was disappointed in the performance against Dublin, De Gracia saw everything he desired versus Travis.

“Coming back from a loss, we are not going to mope and sit down and cry,” De Gracia said. “We came out, we played, and we did our job.”
