GEORGETOWN — Tristen Brunson began her quest for a second state title by defeating rival Jacey Talbott of Rogers 6-1, 6-1 to claim the District 22-2A girls singles title Tuesday.

Brunson, a sophomore, won the 2A state girls singles titles as a freshman last season. Her only loss this season is to Talbott, whom she is 4-1 against this season.

Joining Brunson at the region tournament in Stephenville next week is the Florence boys doubles team of Matthew Mellette and Shane Schober and the girls doubles team of Mackenzie Payne and Rebecca Horton.

Mellette and Schober defeated Eric Bigon and Lando Hoelscher of Little River-Academy 6-2, 6-0 to advance. Payne and Horton defeated the Salado duo of Paige Taylor and McKayla Hodge 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the finals.

Taylor and Hodge lost a playback match for third place and did not advance to region.
