FLORENCE — Christian Gomez proved the No. 13 wasn’t unlucky.
Gomez put up a game-high 13 points to help the Florence Buffaloes down the Cameron Yoe Yoemen 67-59 on Tuesday.
Alfredo Pena and Mason Lansford posted 11 points apiece to help Florence (7-7, 1-1, District 22-2A) win its first District 22-2A game of the season.
The Buffaloes outscored Yoe (0-2 District 22-2A) 20-14 in the fourth quarter to extend their lead.
Florence looks for its second district win on Friday when it visits Lexington at 2:30 p.m.
SAN SABA 64, CLASS 1A, DIV. II No. 18 LOMETA 51: At San Saba, the Hornets fell into an early hole, despite making a comeback could not completely close the gap as they lost their final game before resuming District 28-1A, Division II play next week.
San Saba jumped out to a 20-2 lead, increasing its cushion to 20 points, 27-7, early in the second quarter.
With senior wing Eric Nichols spearheading the comeback by scoring a game-high 24 points, Lometa cut the deficit to six points on two occasions — once in the third quarter and then again in the fourth.
The Armadillos lived at the free-throw line, attempting 40 shots, as three of the Hornets’ starters fouled out.
Lometa (10-5) returns to the court Friday for its annual alumni game before returning to district play Tuesday against Cranfills Gap.
FLORENCE 36, CAMERON YOE 34: At Florence, senior point guard Shali Simpson made the deciding free throws with eight seconds remaining after being fouled on a 3-pointer, giving the Lady Buffaloes their first District 22-2A victory.
Simpson scored a game-high 12 points, making the first and third of her free throws before a last-second shot by Yoe was off target.
Senior post Rebecca Horton finished with 10 points for Florence, while juniors Jillian Brewer and Shelbie Long added six points apiece to help the Lady Buffaloes (6-12, 1-3) overcome a two-point first quarter.
Florence resumes district play Friday against Lexington at noon.
