Florence distance runner Alfredo Pena will lead a Florence Buffalo stampede to Stephenville next week after a pair of good runs at the District 15 and 16 area meet at McGregor on Thursday.

Pena is one of five Florence track athletes in six different events that finished in the Top 4 and qualified for the Region II-2A meet beginning Friday.

The area meet pitted the best from District 15-2A and 16-2A for a spot in the regional meet at Memorial Stadium and Oscar Fraser Track at Tarleton State.

Pena won a silver medal in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 34.68 seconds and the bronze in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10 minutes, 20.66 seconds.

The Buffalos had a pair of throwers advance in the discus. Christian Gomez took second with a throw of 143 feet, and Jacob Navarro finished fourth with a throw of 139 feet, 9 inches.

Bradley Koenig also is on his way to the regional meet after finishing third in the 400 dash (52.32).

Zach Shelton also advanced to the regional meet after taking fourth place in the pole vault (12-0).
