Rebecca Horton, Clarissa Carranco and Shali Simpson made a good combination at middle blocker, outside hitter and setter for the Florence Lady Buffs this season.

And the coaches in District 22-2A took notice. The Florence trio were honored with spots on the all-district volleyball team.

“I am very excited for my kids to have received these honors,” Florence coach Kelly Stephens said.

“Not only does it mean that we are improving as a team but it also means that other teams are noticing our improvement.”

Horton was named to the all-district first team and Clarissa Carranco was a first-team defense selection.

Horton finished the season with 286 kills, and 31 blocks while Carranco had 88 digs.

Salado outside hitter Cheyenne Vaca also made the first team after accumulating 157 kills while junior libero Tori Laughland was a first-team defensive selection after posting a team-high 64 digs.

Florence setter Simpson’s team- leading 62 assists helped her make the all-district second team. She also had 205 kills on the season.

Salado junior middle blocker Taylor Atwood was a second-team selection after blocking 33 shots to go along with 69 kills in 2013.

Jenny Roche, Brooklynne Owens, Hannah Hurley, Taylor Navarette, Shelbie Long and Meridyn Futrell represented Florence on the honorable mention list.
