The Tuesday Night Tournament had its biggest turnout ever this week and when the three-hour event was over Carl Fox, of Belton, and Troy Trenholm, of Salado, earned $1,275 for taking first place and winning “Big Bass” honors.

“Persistence was the key,” Fox said. “We didn’t do so well at our first location. So we went to our second spot and did well.”

The weekly event, sponsored by Tightlines Premium Fishing Tackle, takes place at Stillhouse Hollow Reservoir.

“We both know that lake well,” Fox said. “I’ve lived here since 1993. In our second spot on Tuesday, we were fishing 6 to 8 feet deep. We were exactly where we needed to be.”

The duo won the TNT with a two-fish 14.21-pound bag. Their big catch weighed 9.22 pounds.

“Troy brought in that big catch,” Fox said. “I told him where we needed to fish and he made a cast there and caught it right away. And then I turned around and immediately caught a fish just under 5 pounds.

“The conditions all night were nice. It was pleasant outside, it was in the 60s and 70s most of the time.”

Taking second place was James Millsap-Jody Berger with an 11.37-pound bag.

Third place went to Thomas Wells-Bobby Babcock with 11.12 pounds.

Fourth place went (10.87) to Billy Ford-William Lynch (10.87 pounds). Fifth place went to Gerald Poboril-David Stidham (10.80). Sixth place went to Jim Hester-Ken McKee (9.69).

As for how he’ll spend his half of the first-place prize, Fox said, with a laugh, “I texted my wife right after we won and she said she’s already shopping online — and I wasn’t even home yet.”
