Middle School Roundup Lady Cavs teams sweep conference crowns

Cielo McClain had nine points, five rebounds, two assists and four steals and the eighth-grade A-team Cavaliers capped an amazing day for Patterson Middle School.

Patterson defeated Liberty Hill 44-7 Wednesday, completing a perfect regular season and Southern Conference championship. All four Lady Cavaliers teams accomplished that feat.

Patterson’s 8B team defeated Liberty Hill 25-9. The 7A squad won 30-17, and the 7B team took a 17-0 victory.

McClain had a bunch of help in the 8A win. Other contributors were Devany Wall (seven points, two assists), Kaleiyah Davis (seven points, three assists, two steals), Sydney Brock (six points, three assists, five rebounds, two steals), Daija Planas (five points, three assists), Breonna Fleming (four points), Rashari Brent (two points, three assists), Jayona Jennings (two points) and Niah Tennant (two points, two blocks, two steals.)

In the 8B win, Geordan Blanchard led the Lady Cavs with 12 points, two assists, four rebounds and 11 steals. Other contributors were Jessica Fennell (four points, four rebounds, five steals), Amie Cornileus (three points, two steals), Siyanna Carney (two points, three steals), Victoria Harrison (two points), Monica Cottrell (two points, two steals).

In the 7A game, Meleanna Williams scored 11 points in Patterson’s win.

Other scorers were Amani Bradshaw (seven points), Jasmine Carson (four) and Cierra Penn, Alanna Howard, Winjiru Randolph and Brianna Smiley (two each).

Jelecia Magee scored eight points while the 7B Lady Cavs shut out Liberty Hill

Other scorers for Patterson were Jelecia Magee (eight points), Makyla Peak (three) and Sydney Hernandes, Janai Oakley and Natalia Goodman (two points).

The 7A Lady Cavs will host the fourth-place team from the Northern Conference on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the opening round of the postseason championship tournament. The 8A Patterson game will follow, with play continuing Saturday at Shoemaker High School.

EASTERN HILLS 8A 32, NOLAN 8A 14: Alia Vines led the defeated Lady Mustangs with nine points, 11 rebounds and five blocks.

Other contributors for Nolan were Hillary Henyo (five points, five rebounds), Tamiah Dowdell (11 rebounds), and Shamira Peters (four steals, five blocks).

Nolan finishes conference play next week at Audie Murphy.

MANOR 8A 44, SMITH 8A 10: Tanjala Smith tossed in 16 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Manor to a victory.

Other contributors for Manor were Kyla DuPont (11 points, four assists), Des’ree Brown (seven points) and Tava Williams (five rebounds).

Manor’s eighth-graders travel to Rancier next week.

MANOR 8B 24, SMITH 8B 14: Angel Merriweather scored 10 points and Manor clinched its conference championship.

Other contributors for Manor were Kaylcia Rivera (eight points) and Debroah Goodman (six rebounds).

EASTERN HILLS 7A 22, NOLAN 7A 6: Jaycie Amezcua, Karen Ortiz and Tynasia Thomas each scored two points for the defeated Lady Mustangs.Thomas also grabbed seven rebounds.

BOYS 

NOLAN 8A 49, EASTERN HILLS 8A 42: At Eastern Hills, Casey Armour, Jyaire Shorter and Trayvon Todd each posted double-doubles and the Mustangs never trailed after scoring the first 11 points of the game.

Armour had 19 points and 12 rebounds, Shorter scored 11 and grabbed 16 boards and Todd finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs, who gained sole possession of first place in their conference.

Other contributors for Nolan were Marcus Eiland (10 assists, five rebounds and three points), Demontrion Curb (seven points, four assists) and defensive standouts Shamar Domonter, Shaun Holloway and Titus Brooks.

PATTERSON 8A 63, LIBERTY HILL 8A 58: At Patterson, Xavier Wilson scored 20 points to help the Cavaliers even their conference record at 1-1.

Other scorers for Patterson (4-6 overall) were Jakarri Thomas (13 points), Ka’Rahn Salter (nine), Jose Serrano (eight), Maurice Berry and Aubrey Kelly (five each) and Avante Bell (two).

UNION GROVE 8A 45, PATTERSON 8A 34: At Union Grove, Will Duran was a defensive standout for the defeated Cavaliers on Saturday.

EASTERN HILLS 8B 21, NOLAN 8B 17: At Eastern Hills, Dominick Ellis had six points and 12 rebounds to lead the defeated Mustangs.

Other scorers for Nolan were Idris Alli and Kris Melgar (four points each) and Miguel Franqui (three). Rodrigo Martinez and Juan Rodriguez were defensive standouts.

LIBERTY HILL 8B 39, PATTERSON 8B 24: At Patterson, Timothy Read scored eight points to lead the defeated Cavaliers.

Other scorers for Patterson were Micah Hawkins (four points), Keondra Taylor, Tyrese Felder, Kevin Vargas, Dyterious Peterkin and Brandon Harrison (two each) and Jy-quez Polk and Jaysian Tyson (one each).

PATTERSON 7A 44, LIBERTY HILL 7A 23: At Liberty Hill, Amir Davis scored 11 points and Chandler Sutton added 10 in the Cavaliers’ victory.

Other scorers for Patterson were Devan Thomas (eight points), Elwyn Rose and Damon Hewing (five each), Elijah Hicks (two) and Javier Molina (one).

EASTERN HILLS 7A 40, NOLAN 7A 36: Janhanselor Curry had 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the defeated Mustangs in a thriller.

The teams traded leads throughout the game until Eastern Hills took command with 2:37 remaining.

Other contributors for Nolan were Jaylin Eddie (11 points), Dvaugh Kent (nine points, 11 rebounds), Ricardo Rivera-Lewis (six points) and defensive standouts Omari Brathwaite and Trelon Saddler.

Nolan was 8 of 12 at the foul line.

The Nolan seventh-graders host Audie Murphy on Thursday.

PALO ALTO 7A 31, LIVE OAK RIDGE 7A 14: At Live Oak Ridge, Ta’Veon Sevaaetasi scored 10 points as the Patriots improved to 2-0 in conference play.

Other scorers for Palo Alto wree Dayshaun Young (eight points) and Tavon McCorvey and Armoni Clark (four each). Clark added six rebounds. McCorvey led the Patriots with six steals.

PATTERSON 7A 35, UNION GROVE 7A 25: At Union Grove, Chandler Sutton scored 17 points to lift the Cavaliers to a road victory on Saturday.

Other scorers for Patterson were Damon Hewing and Amir Davis (six points each), Elwyn Rose (four) and Mark Davis (two).

PATTERSON 7B 31, LIBERTY HILL 7B 18: At Liberty Hill, Julien Jimenez scored 13 points to lead the Cavaliers to a victory.

Other scorers for Patterson were Julius Cornelus (seven points), Preston Mills (five), Brian Gardner (four) and Jervaughn Walker (two).

PALO ALTO 7B 23, LIVE OAK RIDGE 7B 21: At Live Oak Ridge, Carlon Rivera scored in the lane with 20 seconds remaining off a pass from Nehemiah Brown and the Patriots won their second straight conference game.

Top scorer for the Patriots was Jaquietin Taylor with six points. Other Palo Alto scorers were Carlos Ferguson (five points), Brown and Joshua Newmann (four each) and Scotty Eddings (two).

POWERLIFTING

The S.C. Lee eighth-grade girls won in three weight classes and finished first in their own Five Hills Meet on Friday.

Nicole Evans and Jurnee Long finished 1-2 in the 105-pound division. Also placing first were Tyionna McClain (114) and Angie Gorman (132).

Arriana Martinez was second in the 123 division. Adrianna Crapper (148) and Sierra McCormick (148-plus) earned third-place finishes.

The seventh-grade Lady Cougars finished second in their meet.

Hana Flores (114), Alexxis Smith (132) and Taleah Samuel (148-plus) won their divisions.

Second-place finishers were Teresa Sherman (97) and Samantha Kessinger (148).

Third-place finishers were Hanna Bruns (97), Taylor McBride (105), Elaine Armstrong (132) and Brianna Stone (148-plus).

Mikela Devins (97), Gabby Leal (105), Shakala Davis (114) and Natalie Steel (148-plus) all placed fourth.

Victoria Aguirre (114) and Janell Holman (148-plus) placed fifth.
