MIDDLE SCHOOL ROUNDUP: 7A Lions hold off Manor for 2-0 start

Devyne Williams tossed in 20 points and the Liberty Hill seventh-grade A-team Lions won their second straight to start the season, beating the Manor Rams 37-32 at Liberty Hill.

Liberty Hill led by five at halftime, and by three at the end of three quarters, but Manor took a late lead after converting turnovers into a few easy layups. But the Lions recovered down the stretch.

Other scorers for Liberty Hill were Jordan Braithwaite (six points), Nehemiah Carter (five) and Lorenzo Mobley, Tamoi Williams and RaQuan Thompson (two each). Michael Adams was a defensive standout.

The seventh-grade Lions host Nolan on Thursday.

PALO ALTO 7A 38, RANCIER 7A 21: At Palo Alto, Ta’Veon Sevaaetasi led all scorers with 12 points and the Patriots improved to 2-0.

Other contributors for Palo Alto were Patrick Davison (seven points), Tavon McCorvey (five points and four assists), Joshua James (four free throws), Dayshaun Young (four points), Romeo Postell and Darius McLeod (two points each) and defensive standout Khalil Grant.

The Patriots play Smith on Thursday.

PALO ALTO 7B 27, LIVE OAK RIDGE 7B 25: Nehemiah Brown had 10 points and seven rebounds as the Patriots won a nail-biter in the semifinals of the Killeen ISD B-team tournament.

Other contributors for Palo Alto were Scotty Eddings (eight points), Jaquietin Taylore (five points and four rebounds), Gregory Cooke and Carlos Fergurson (two points each) and Edgerrin Melton and Carlon Rivera (four rebounds each).

MANOR 8A 59, LIBERTY HILL 8A 49: Jaden James had 21 points, nine rebounds and two steals to lead the Rams to a victory.

Other contributors for Manor were Montego Mulcavaney (13 points, six blocks, seven rebounds, three assists), Elijah Moleon (nine points, nine rebounds), Brian Brock (six points, nine rebounds), Ashton Vories (five points, three rebounds) and Ozias Wright (five points).

NOLAN 8A 49, LIVE OAK RIDGE 8A 25: At Live Oak Ridge, Casey Armour’s double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) spurred the Mustangs to their second win.

Other contributors for Nolan were Trayvon Todd (10 points, five rebounds, three blocks), Jyaire Shorter (eight points, five rebounds), Marcus Eiland (seven points, seven steals), Demontrion Curb (six points, five assists), Shaun Holloway (three points), Zach Moody (two points) and Diego Babbit and Jean Paul Colon (three rebounds each).

SMITH 8B 47, PATTERSON 8B 41: Jakarri Thomas led the defeated Cavaliers with 11 points.

Smith was aided by its sharp shooting. Four different Leopards combined to make eight 3-pointers.

Other scorers for Patterson were Jose Serrano (10 points), Marice Berry (nine), Ta’Yon Hill (eight) and Dequan Ryan and Demetrius Jasey (three each).

NOLAN 8B 29, MANOR 8B 19: At Killeen High, Jamarious Terry scored 11 points to lead the Mustangs to a victory.

Other contributors for Nolan were Titus Brook (eight points and five steals), Kris Melga (four points) and Miguel Franqui, Tavis Johnson and Dominick Gross (two points each).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

MANOR 8A 44, LIBERTY HILL 8A 43: Kyla DuPont scored 12 points, and Tanjala Smith added 11 as the Lady Rams rallied from a halftime deficit.

Des’ree Brown knocked down two crucial 3-pointers for Manor. Marsha Knox had three blocks, and Tava Williams had two others to help seal the victory.

The Lady Rams face Union Grove on Dec. 9.

UNION GROVE 8A 41, AUDIE MURPHY 8A 39: Nasia Close and Sheila Borders each scored 12 points in the Grizzlies victory.

Other scorers for Union Grove were Angelica Brown (nine points), Kiara Young (five) and Terrya Goodrich and Majiesstic Wright.

NOLAN 8A 30, LIVE OAK RIDGE 8A 23: Lady Mustangs post Alia Vines scored 15 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead Manor to a victory.

Point guard Daja Simmons added 10 points, three rebounds and four steals for Nolan. Other contributors were Ivana Kombet-Odango (two points), Shayla Williams (two points, seven rebounds, nine steals) and Dominique Buford (three rebounds, three steals and two blocks).

PATTERSON 8A 47, SMITH 8A 14: Cici McClain scored 19 points to lead the Cavaliers to another victory.

Other scorers for Patterson were Kaleiyah Davis (eight points), Jayonna Jennings and Daija Planas (five each), Sydney Brock (four) and Devany Wall, Rashari Brent and Tia Landrum (two each).

PATTERSON 7A 36, SMITH 7A 4: Cierra Penn scored nine points in the Cavaliers’ win.

Other scorers for Patterson were Amani Bradshaw (eight points), Meleanna Williams (seven), Jasmine Carson (five), Khya Andrews (three) and Alexus Whiteside and Brianna Smiley (two each).

UNION GROVE 7A 32, AUDIE MURPHY 7A 9: Jaya Loney scored 16 points to lead the Grizzlies to a victory.

Other scorers for Union Grove were Mya Taylor (eight points) and Priscilla Farris, Aysia Davidson, Faith Miller and Carmen Young (two each).

Zakeivia Brown was a defensive standout.
