Marcus Eiland ran for 204 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries to lead the Nolan eighth-grade A-team Mustangs to a 32-6 victory over the Eastern Hills Panthers in a battle of undefeated division leaders Tuesday night at Eastern Hills.
The Mustangs led all the way after Eiland scored from 5 yards out to cap the game’s opening drive. He added the conversion run for a 7-0 lead.
Later in the first quarter, Casey Armour recovered an Eastern Hills fumble and Eiland finished another scoring drive with a 10-yard run to put Nolan up 13-6.
Early in the second quarter, Eiland added his final TD, from 12 yards out.
Quarterback Jyaire Shorter scored on a 45-yard run and tossed a 45-yard touchdown pass to Trayvon Todd in the second half to cap the scoring.
Other offensive standouts for Nolan were Deomontrion Curb (PAT run) and offensive linemen Marcos Perez Canales, Juan Rodriguez, Shamun Curtis, Domingo Salinas, Cody Poyser and Shaun Holloway.
The defense was led by standout performances by Armour and Miguel Francqui (six solo tackles),
Tylan Middlebrook and Shorter (five tackles each), Zach Moody (forced fumble) and Treyvon Todd (forced fumble).
Nolan’s eighth-graders wrap up their regular season Monday at Audie Murphy.
LIBERTY HILL 8A 27, PALO ALTO 8A 12: Keoni Quartero scored both touchdowns for the defeated Patriots, including a 93-yard pass from Moses Ross.
Quartero also scored on a 15-yard scamper late in the third quarter. Other offensive standouts for the Patriots were Darrell Crowder, Arvin Jones and Branden Childs. Defensively Brandon Johnson had an interception while Ne’Andre Wilson recovered a fumble. Other defensive standouts for the Patriots were Nathaniel Nanai, Leonard Penick, Robert Moore, Charles Joyner, and Keoni Quartero.
The Patriots finished the season 1-4.
LIVE OAK RIDGE 8A 38, UNION GROVE 8A 14: The Lobos won all four of their conference games to win the school’s first conference championship.
PALO ALTO 8B 19, LIBERTY HILL 8B 13: Lihn Nguyen recovered two fumbles, one for a touchdown, and the Patriots finished the season with a victory.
Mi’ldris Guy also scored a defensive touchdown with a strip and recovery for 38 yards. Stephan Cordice added a 4-yard TD run for the Patriots (3-2).
Quarterback Caleb Kline hit Cordice with a pass for a one-point conversion. Other defensive standouts for the Patriots were Marco Camacho (two sacks), Edashal Konah (several tackles and a sack) and Jurgen Peralta.
LIVE OAK RIDGE 8B 27, UNION GROVE 8A 0: The Lobos finished the season undefeated and are 12-0 over the past two seasons.
LIBERTY HILL 7A 22, PALO ALTO 7A 7: Devyne Williams had a hand in all of the points scored by the winning Lions, passing for two touchdowns, running for another and kicking a pair of two-point PATs.
Williams opened the scoring on a 1-yard run, then connected with Jacorey Adams on a 7-yard TD pass to give the Lions a 14-7 halftime lead.
The Lions added a little insurance when Williams connected with Adams a second time, this one for 75 yards.
Dorian Black was another offensive standout for Liberty Hill (4-1, 3-1 conference).
Defensive standouts were Chapman Rowe, Jalin Dillard (interception), RaQuan Thompson, Thian Pate, Tyshawn Korngor and Alex Rivera.
With the win, the Lions qualified to play in a 7A semifinal playoff game at Leo Buckley Stadium on Monday.
Ta’Veon Sevaaetasi score the lone Patriot touchdown, his fifth score in two games. Other offensive standouts for Palo Alto were receivers Shauntae Payne, Khalil Grant, Romeo Postell, Carlon Rivera, Malachi Makowka and Jaquietin Taylor. LInebackers Devin Wilson, Chris Kelly and Armani Clark were defensive standouts.
PALO ALTO 7B 33, LIBERTY HILL 7B 0: Quarterback Gregory Cooke and running back Scottlitre Eddings each scored a pair of touchdowns in the Patriots’ victory.
Running back C’Montre Houston also scored a touchdown.
Defensively, Levin Bowman and Montarius Daily made several tackles, and Jaden Galdamez had an interception.
Offensive standouts for Liberty Hill (0-5, 0-4 conference) were J’Dyn Williams and Damien Curly. Steven Guauque, Sha’cobe Marzett and Ryan Robinson were defensive standouts.
EASTERN HILLS 7A DEF. UNION GROVE 7A 25-15, 25-22: Layla Yerry served six points, but the Grizzlies were eliminated in the Killeen ISD postseason tournament Saturday.
Other scorers for Union Grove were Terrya Goodrich and Destiny Brown (four points each), Elizabeth Iosefo, Ashlyn Eastmore and Mya Taylor (two each) and Sophie Young and Claudia Vera (one each).
COVE JUNIOR HIGH 7A DEF. BELTON 7A 25-13, 25-16: At CJH, Jayda Carter had three kills, five aces and 10 digs as the 6-0 Lady Bullpups moved closer to a district championship with two games remaining.
S.C. LEE 7A DEF. TEMPLE TRAVIS 7A 26-24, 25-28, 15-11: At S.C. Lee, Cameron Dewald was the star of the game for the victorious Lady Cougars.
S.C. LEE7B DEF. TEMPLE TRAVIS 7B 25-15, 25-16: At S.C. Lee, Shelby Sayers earned player of the game honors in the Lady Cougars’ win.
BELTON 7B DEF. COVE JUNIOR HIGH 7B 28-26, 26-24: At CJH, Tori Schwausch was the player of the game for the defeated Lady Bullpups.
EASTERN HILLS 8A DEF. UNION GROVE 8A 25-22, 23-25, 25-17: At Ellison High School, Sheila Borders served nine points but the Grizzlies came up short in the first round of the Killeen ISD postseason tournament.
Union Grove (6-4) was the third seed in the South conference facing the No. 2 seed from the North.
Other scorers for the Grizzlies were Rebecca Kennedy (five points), Teyrra Goodrich and Selicia Field (four each), Jaylyn Capito (three) and Gabby Woods, Hayley Sortman and Symone Thomas (two each).
Other Union Grove standouts were Arianna Perry, Jadienne Reese, Kiara Tuncap and Jalena Elzie.
S.C. LEE 8A DEF. TEMPLE TRAVIS 8A 25-15, 25-9, 15-11: At S.C. Lee, Abiline Mackwelung was the standout in the Lady Cougars’ victory.
Cove Junior High 8A def. Belton 8A 25-11, 25-19: At CJH, Kayleigh Abbott served 10 straight points to lift the Lady Bullpups to a victory.
Malasha Hall had two kills and three aces. Daysha Barnes had two blocks and three kills.
The Cove Junior High teams travel to Temple Lamar on Monday.
S.C. LEE 8B def. TEMPLE TRAVIS 8B 25-21, 25-13, 15-11: At S.C. Lee, Jurnee Long led the Lady Cougars to a victory.
BELTON 8B def. COVE JUNIOR HIGH 8B 25-13, 25-16: At CJH, Shaniah Atkins played an outstanding defensive game, but the Lady Bullpups couldn’t hold on to leads in either game.
