Luca Lokker recorded a hat trick Thursday, helping the Union Grove Grizzlies seventh-grade soccer team to a 4-1 win over Salado.
The other goal for Union Grove (2-0-1) was scored by Jacob Ables.
Evan Ernst led the Grizzly defense.
PATTERSON 7TH 1, PALO ALTO 7TH 1, TIE: Palo Alto scored the equalizer early in the second half and the teams settled for a draw.
Michael Kelly gave Patterson an early 1-0 lead, assisted by Avre Prieto. The Cavaliers dominated the first half with possession and ball control leading to multiple shots.
Domingo Ortego and Emmanuel Kenyi were defensive standouts for Patterson.
UNION GROVE 8TH 2, SALADO 8TH 1: Mark Levin and Casimir Dalman each scored as the Grizzlies improved to 3-0 on the season.
Jack Byse and Daniel Goldberg led the Grizzly defense.
The Grizzlies travel to Palo Alto on Thursday.
PATTERSON 8TH DEF. PALO ALTO 8TH: Nicholas Dawson, Iannuel Melendez and Jonathan Dilam each scored second-half goals as the Cavaliers improved to 3-0.
The goals were assisted by Jalen Bullock, Preston Phelps and Makkai Rogers. Jailon Gray and Rogers were defensive standouts.
Patterson returns to action next week against Live Oak Ridge.
PATTERSON 8TH 7, PALO ALTO 8TH 1: Niyah Collins scored twice, and five of her teammates also scored in the Lady Cavaliers’ victory.
Playing with the wind behind them, the Lady Cavs tallied three quick goals from Tricia Finkbeiner, Trinity Perez and Alisia Comacho. Collins and Isabell Medders scored later in the half and Patterson led 5-0 at the break.
The going was much tougher for Patterson in the second half into the wind, but Collins made it 6-0 before the Lady Patriots broke up the shutout.
Madison Pigg added the final Lady Cavs goal.
Goalkeeper Lekariss Gillespie was a defensive standout.
SALADO 8TH 2, UNION GROVE 8TH 1: The Lady Grizzlies suffered their first loss.
Gloria Kim, Dezaraye Brown, Caitlin Whiteley and Jasmine Crutcher were defensive standouts for Union Grove, which played the second half with just nine players available.
The Lady Grizzlies (2-1) return to action Thursday at home.
PALO ALTO 7TH 2, PATTERSON 7TH 2, TIE: Palo Alto’s Lady Patriots scored with five minutes remaining to gain a draw with the Patterson Cavaliers.
The Lady Patriots scored first, but Mia Sias answered for Patterson with a breakaway in the box.
In the second half, Ameriel Smith gave the Lady Cavs their first lead.
Other standouts for Patterson were Angi Blair, Autumn Baker, Janell Reyes-Crooks and Nicole Evans.
UNION GROVE 7TH 9, SALADO 7TH 0: Olivia Sullens scored seven goals — her third straight game with at least three — and the Lady Grizzlies rolled to their third consecutive win to start the season.
Sarah Moffitt had two goals and an assist. Evi Romero tallied three assists. Aryana Martin also dominated the midfield.
Keiley Tierce, McKenzie Mansell, Kanaiya Blackmon, Nora Heely and Linzie Baker were defensive standouts for Union Grove.
Brandon Horton shot a 59 and the Liberty Hill boys golf team won its first tournament of the season, edging runner-up Nolan by three strokes at Stonetree Golf Club on Thursday.
Other members of the Liberty Hill team were Jose Cancel (63), Eric Campos (67), Noah Toth (68) and Trevor Giese (69).
Anthony Hillier competed as an individual for Liberty Hill and carded a 65.
Patterson’s girls finished second. The Lady Cavaliers were led by Amara Hise, who finished third individually.
The Lions and Cavaliers travel to Fort Hood’s Courses of Clear Creek on Thursday for their next tourney.
The Killeen ISD middle school championship tournament is set for May 16 at Stonetree.
The Patterson tennis team took on Rancier on April 22..
In eighth-grade matches, Deidra Body and Kimori Leggett won 6-5 and 6-2, respectively.
Brenden Mitchell lost 6-3 against Rancier’s top seed. Jacob Bauer dominated his first match 6-0. Then tried his hand against Rancier’s top seed and lost 6-2.
In seventh-grade matches, Patterson’s top-seeded Isaac Camacho won 6-0. John Knepler and Jan Fontanez lost 6-1 to Rancier.
In mixed doubles, top-seeded seventh-graders Natalie Penman and Ivory Washington topped Rancier’s eighth-grade team 6-0. Camacho and Leggett teamed up to take a 6-1 victory for the Cavs.
Patterson conducted an intrasquad mini doubles tournament due to the lack of Rancier players. Raina Fegurgur and Syiera Haywood defeated Sohialys Agosto and Trinity Carter 7-5. Natalie Harris and Inaya White teamed up for a 6-4 victory over Simone Webly and Camila Ortiz. Fegurgur and Haywood topped Webly and Ortiz 6-2.
In a seventh grade vs. eighth grade final showdown, seventh-graders Agosto and Carter came out victorious against Harris and White. Jada Ross and Aaliyah Davis also played a singles match that had a 1-6 score.
GRIZZLIES WIN 3 OF 4 SINGLES BRACKETS: On April 22, the Union Grove tennis team played Eastern Hills at Shoemaker High School.
The Grizzlies won three out of the four single brackets. Yazan Chtay won the seventh-grade boys singles bracket. Nhur Fernandez placed second in seventh-grade girls. Samuel Boehm and Rawan Tarabeh both won their singles brackets in the eighth-grade matches.
