Sarah Moffitt scored four times, Olivia Sullens posted her fourth hat trick in four games and the Union Grove Grizzlies seventh-grade soccer team improved to 4-0 with a 9-0 win over Palo Alto’s Lady Patriots on Thursday.

Kaniaya Blackmon and Reese Wilson also scored for Union Grove, which has outscored its opponents 32-1 this season.

The shutout was led defensively by Clarissa Rodriguez, McKenzie Mansell, Keiley Tierce, Emily Blakeney and Nora Heely.

PATTERSON 7TH 2, LIVE OAK RIDGE 7TH 0: Amariel Smith and Mia Sias each scored, and keep Mikayla Perez turned away every Lady Lobos shot in Patterson’s victory.

The Lady Cavs started the game with a new setup but played well with it.

Sias scored in the final minutes of the first half and the Lady Cavs led 2-0 at intermission.

Cailee Sutton played an exceptional game in the midfield for Patterson. Other standouts for the Lady Cavs were Autumn Baker, Janell Reyes’Crooks, outside defender Camille King, Nicole Evans, Angi Blair and Aubrey Giles.

PATTERSON 8TH 3, LIVE OAK RIDGE 8TH 1: Trinity Perez scored the opening goal and the Lady Cavaliers went on to beat Live Oak Ridge.

Jasmin Morgan and Alisia Camacho also scored for Patterson.

Patterson led 2-0 at halftime.

The Lady Lobos cut the deficit in half early in the second. Patterson’s Lekariss Gillespie thwarted one attack with a dazzling save, but Live Oak Ridge scored moments later.

The Lady Cavs got their two-goal advantage back later when they were awarded a free kick from 5 yards out after Live Oak was whistled for an illegal back pass. Camacho drilled the kick into the net to cap the scoring.

Other standouts for Patterson were Madisyn Pigg, Kishany Lebron, Mara Kay Gutierrez, Alina Smith-Rodriguez and Ariana Hardwick.

UNION GROVE 8TH 3, PALO ALTO 8TH 0: Waverly Hairston, Aaliyah Hatton and Camdyn Brothers each scored in the Lady Grizzlies’ victory.

The shutout was led by great defensive play from Jasmine Crutcher, Gloria Kim, Caitlyn Whiteley and Dezaraye Brown.

Patterson is off this week and returns to action the following week at Patterson.


PATTERSON 7TH 4, LIVE OAK RIDGE 7TH 0: Alex Fernandez scored twice and Domingo Ortega recorded his second shutout in goal for the unbeaten Cavaliers.

Fernandez scored off a corner kick and free kick for Patterson (2-0-2). Roderick Polk added a goal on a header. Michael Kelly also scored for the Cavaliers.

Elijah Castillo was another defensive standout.

Patterson plays Union Grove on May 16 in a battle for first place.

UNION GROVE 7TH 4, PALO ALTO 7TH 2: Luca Lokker tallied his second straight hat trick and the Grizzlies remained unbeaten.

The other Union Grove goal was scored by Joseph Ahn. Evan Ernst and Austin Dollard led the defense for the Grizzlies (3-0-1).

PATTERSON 8TH 2, LIVE OAK RIDGE 8TH 2, TIE: Nicholas Dawson scored the equalizer in the second half and the Cavaliers avoided their first loss.

Jose Llerena gave Patterson (3-0-1) an early 1-0 advantage, but the Lobos answered with two quick goals to take a 2-1 halftime lead.

The Lobos were shut out the rest of the way.

Bradley Watson and Phillip Saucedo assisted on the Patterson goals. Jailon Grey and Makkai Rogers were defensive standouts.

Patterson plays Union Grove on May 16 in a battle for first place.

UNION GROVE 8TH 3, PALO ALTO 8TH 2: Mark Levin, Diego Fierro and Cameron Howard each scored and the Grizzlies won their fourth straight to start the season.

Jack Byse and Quintin Howard led the defense.

The Grizzlies will host Patterson in two weeks.


Kochan Page carded a 65 over nine holes and the Patterson golf team took first place Thursday in the second tournament of the season at Fort Hood’s Courses of Clear Creek.

Prince Johnson, Isaiah Rosas and Javier Hernandez posted 66s for the Cavaliers. Other members of the Patterson first team are Curtis Emmons, Nicholas Mintz, Trent Salyer, Ayden Bowers and Brendon Mitchell.

Zyaire Marshall and Chavo Palacios shot 69s for Palo Alto.

Tyler Barr, Tanner Wells and Bobby Nailling finished with personal-best scores for Union Grove.

JT Russ shot a 56, and Triston Nelson  a 68 for Eastern Hills.

Sumin Park, Ashley Turck and Madison Camden took the top three spots to lead Union Grove to victory in the girls tournament.

Patterson’s girls placed second.


Jahnese Humes and Queenie Humes helped the Palo Alto girls win two events in the Killeen ISD Middle School District Swim Meet.

Jahnese Humes won the 25-yard freestyle. Teammate Kaley Ellis placed eighth. The Humeses, along with Yasmilie Sibrian, helped Palo Alto win the 200 medley relay. They placed third in the 100 medley relay.

Queenie placed third in the 50 freestyle and second in the 25 backstroke. Ellis was seventh in the backstroke.

Tristan Haynes helped the Patriot boys win two events. He was on the Palo Alto’s winning 100 and 200 freestyle relays. Joshua Heldt also swam in the 200 relay and was third in the 50 backstroke.

Palo Alto’s swim team finished fifth overall.
