MIDDLE SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Shorter leads 8A Mustangs to win with double-double

Jyaire Shorter scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Thursday to lead the Nolan eighth-grade A-team Mustangs to a 62-44 victory over Liberty Hill.

Nolan led by just four at halftime, but turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter and gradually pulled away.

Demontrion Curb added 12 points and Casey Armour put in 11 for the Mustangs. Other contributors were Marcus Eiland (eight points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals), Trayvon Todd (four blocks, seven rebounds, seven points), Jean-Paul Colon added a basket, Diego Babbit contributed valuable minutes defensively and Zach Moody and Shaun Holloway also rebounded well.

AUDIE MURPHY 8A 56, PATTERSON 8A 51: Jakarri Thomas led the defeated Cavaliers with 20 points.

Other scorers for Patterson were Demetrius Jasey (seven points), Maurice Berry (five), Ka’Rahn Salter, Avante Bell and Aubrey Kelly (four each) and Jose Serrano, Ta’Yon Hill and WIlliam Duran (two each).

LIBERTY HILL 8B 44, NOLAN 8B 27: Dominick Gross had eight points and eight rebounds but the Mustangs could not overcome cold shooting.

Titus Brooks, Kris Melgar and Jamarious Terry each had six points for Nolan. Tavis Johnson also had a basket.

PATTERSON 8B 37, AUDIE MURPHY 8B 14: Colton Young led a balanced scoring attack with six points in the Cavaliers’ victory.

Tim Reed, Dyterious Peterkine, Hunter Madison and Reginald Evelyn each had five points for Patterson. Bo Buckley added four. Darodrian Jones had two.

PALO ALTO 7A 40, SMITH 7A 22: At Smith, Ta’Veon Sevaaetasi scored 13 points and the Patriots took command early, racing to a 16-4 lead after the opening quarter.

Sevaaetasi also had seven rebounds and four steals.

Other contributors for Palo Alto were Darius McLeod (seven points, six rebounds), Tavon McCorvey (five points, seven assists, two rebounds and five steals), Dayshaun Young (six points), Romeo Postell (four points), Khalil Grant (three points) and Patrick Davison (two points).

PALO ALTO 7B 33, SMITH 7B 9: At Smith, Miguel Rivera-Duff had 12 points, four steals and two rebounds to lead the Patriots to a victory.

Gregory Cooke added eight points and four rebounds. Other contributors for Palo Alto were Nehemiah Brown (two points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists), Scotty Eddings (three points), Carlos Ferguson, C’Montre Houston, Joshua Newman and Jacquietin Taylor (two points each) and Keith Johnson-Varner (four rebounds and a steal).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

LIBERTY HILL 8A 43, NOLAN 8A 8: Alia Vines led the defeated Lady Mustangs four points and seven rebounds.

Other contributors for Nolan were Daja Simmons (two points), Shayla Williams (two points, four rebounds, two steals), Shamira Peters (two steals) and Tamiah Dowdell (two rebounds).

The Lady Mustangs have a bye week this week. The eighth-graders host Union Grove on Dec. 16.

PATTERSON 8A 53, AUDIE MURPHY 8A 31: Cici McClain scored 14 points to lead the Lady Cavaliers to a victory.

Kaleiyah Davis hit two 3-pointers and finished with 10 points.

Devany Wall also hit a 3 and scored seven points.

Other scorers were Sydney Brock (five points), Breonna Flemming, Ariyana Scott, Niah Tennant, Daija Planas and Rashari Brent (four each) and Tia Landrum (one).

LIBERTY HILL 8B 44, NOLAN 8B 3: Katrina McMillin led the defeated Lady Mustangs with two points. Ahleeyah Brown added a free throw.

Jalaia Bullock assisted on McMillin’s basket. Remani Slater had seven rebounds and three steals. McMillin grabbed three rebounds

PATTERSON 8B 36, AUDIE MURPHY 8B 6: Jayona Jennings and Jessica Fennell each had eight points in the Lady Cavaliers’ victory.

Other scorers for Patterson were Geordan Blanchard (six points), Dimyne Baker and Amie Cornileus (four each) and Siyanna Carney, Victoria Harrison and Monica Cottrell (two each).

LIBERTY HILL 7A 42, NOLAN 7A 14: Makala Marsh led the defeated Lady Mustangs with eight points.

Other Nolan scorers were Kristina Jenkins (four points) and Tynasia Thomas (two points). Rhonda Ellis-Tinsley grabbed three steals.

PATTERSON 7A 35, AUDIE MURPHY 3: Amani Bradshaw tossed in 13 points to lead the Lady Cavaliers to a victory.

Other scorers for Patterson were Meleanna Williams (six points), Cierra Penn and Dariona Levy (four each) and Alexus Whiteside, Jasmine Carson, Alanna Howard and Wanjiru Randolph (two each).

LIBERTY HILL 7B 14, NOLAN 7B 8: Kalaya Haymon led the defeated Lady Mustangs with six points.

Chyna Rackley and Kayla Davis each added a free throw.

Other contributors for Nolan were Vivian Ortiz (two rebounds, three steals, two blocks), Rackley (two steals) and Davis (three steals).

PATTERSON 7B 32, AUDIE MURPHY 7B 4: Asia Sanders scored eight points to lead the Lady Cavaliers to a victory.

Other scorers for Patterson were Jelecia Magee (seven points), Natalia Goodman (six), Makyla Peak (four), Sydney Hernandez (three) and Chantelle Cancel and Janai Oakley (two each).
