The future of Central Texas baseball will be on display this weekend at Lions Club Park.
On Saturday, Killeen Parks and Recreation will sponsor the first 12-and-under and 10-and-under Lions Foundation Invitational baseball tournament with 13 total area teams competing in the tournament.
As of Tuesday, the 10-and-under division featured six teams split into two three-team pools, with the 12-and-under division featuring seven teams split into one three-team pool and one four-team pool with play starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Tournament director Brett Williams said the tournament will run through Sunday with the "medal" games being played at 1 p.m.
"(On Sunday) we'll have the No. 1 seed from pool A play the No. 1 seed from pool B for the first-place game and the No. 2 seeds from both pools will play in the third-place game."
The tournament will consist of seven teams from Killeen, two from Copperas Cove, one team each from Salado, Belton and Lampasas and a select team from Round Rock.
Williams said fans will get to see youth baseball at its finest during the tournament.
"The teams that will be playing this weekend in this event, these are not your regular recreational teams," Williams said. "These are teams that are competitive locally. It's going to be 10- and 12-and-under baseball at its best."
