GATESVILLE — Shaley Sutton was 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles and the Gatesville softball team rallied from a 6-0 deficit to beat Burnet 8-6 on Tuesday.
The victory snapped a tie for fourth place between the teams.
Mona Lewis also doubled twice in a 2-for-3 night for the Lady Hornets (12-11, 3-4 8-3A), who scored three in the bottom of the fifth and five in the sixth to take the lead.
SALADO 6, ROSEBUD-LOTT 2: At Rosebud, Shyenne Hicks hit a pair of run-scoring singles, drove in a third run on a sacrifice and earned the win on the mound for the Lady Eagles.
Malory Schattle doubled, tripled and hit a fifth-inning sacrifice fly that put Salado up 3-2, its first lead since the top of the first inning.
BURNET 14, GATESVILLE 2: At Burnet, the Bulldogs never trailed, using a six-run fifth inning and a five-run seventh inning to secure a lopsided victory.
The loss drops the Hornets to 9-15-1 overall and 2-4 in District 8-3A, leaving them clinging to the fourth and final postseason berth.
Seth Martin, Zae Paskett, Jeff Speer, Anthony Ortega, Scott Schults and Mitchell Chartier each recorded hits in the defeat with Schults and Ortega producing doubles, but it was not enough to overcome five errors defensively. The Hornets look to bounce back Friday at Llano.
