ROBINSON — Inga Froehlingsdorf does not want her lone season at Lampasas to end.

She made certain it would not happen against Bryan Rudder. The foreign exchange student from Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, tallied the go-ahead goal late in the second half, propelling Lampasas to a 3-1 victory over the Lady Rangers in the Region III-4A area round of the playoffs.

After the match, the sophomore, who will return to her home country following the conclusion of the school year, admitted she was overcome with emotion after her goal.

“I was so happy,” said Froehlingsdorf, who had extremely limited experience playing soccer before arriving in Lampasas, said. “I just couldn’t believe it. I haven’t played for that long, so I was crazy excited.”

Maria Salinas, who scored the final five goals in a 6-0 bi-district victory against Waco Tuesday, gave the Lady Badgers a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute, but Rudder responded two minutes later to tie the score 1-1.

The score held into halftime and for a majority of the second half before Froehlingsdorf’s goal with 8:58 remaining finally gave Lampasas some breathing room.

“It kind of gives you chills to think she has never done this before (this year),” Lampasas head coach Tracy Brantley said. “Its fun to see her light up.”

Lampasas sophomore center midfielder Analise Watson provided the Lady Badgers’ final goal with a little more than two minutes remaining in the match.

The victory advances Lampasas (18-8-2) into the sectional round, where it will play College Station at a date, time and location yet to be determined.

Regardless of when the next match takes place, Froehlingsdorf intends to help her team continue its season.

“I just really don’t want to leave this team,” she said. “This is the best team I have ever been on, and I don’t think there is a team with this much spirit in Germany.”
