Dwayne Williams, Malik Clemons and Terrell Perry helped lead the Shoemaker Grey Wolves to the playoffs as seniors.

On Wednesday, they finalized their collegiate plans, signing letters of intent during a National Signing Day ceremony in the Shoemaker gym.

“You talk about guys who embody a program and these three guys who are signing today are the perfect picture of Shoemaker High School athletics and the football program,” head coach Channon Hall said. “I’m excited for them and excited that I was a little part of it.”

Williams signed with Oregon State, Clemons with Tarleton State and Perry committed to Southeast Prep.

The emotions ran high as the group put pen to paper in front of classmates, teammates and family.

“I’m just real happy that I made my decision and all of the support was wonderful,” Williams said. “It was a real weight off my shoulder and I’m happy this day came.”

Sporting a grey Beavers long-sleeved shirt and a smile bigger than any interception return he had last season, Williams sat at a table decorated in orange and black.

The incoming Oregon State defensive back said Wednesday felt like a game day. “I got up really excited. I knew today was the day I was going to sign,” Williams said. “It felt good waking up today. I was excited.”

Williams chose Oregon State over the University of Nevada after taking recruiting trips to both schools. He verbally committed to OSU last week and plans to enroll in July.

Williams was a ballhawk in 2013 with 10 interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. He totaled 276 yards on 10 returns and was an all-state first-team selection.

“When I made my decision, I was ready to go and I was sticking with Oregon State,” Williams said.

The Grey Wolves finished third in district after winning just two games in 2012. Shoemaker’s only previous postseason appearance came in 2008. In 2013, the

Beavers finished fourth in the Pac 12 North Division with a 4-5 record and were 7-6 overall.

Clemons will trade in his Shoemaker blue for Tarleton State purple after signing with the Lone Star Conference school Wednesday.

“My coaches always talked about how they played in the Lone Star Conference when they were younger,” he said. “I know it’s a good conference. I know we’re going to have to compete.”

Clemons, who plans to enroll at Tarleton this summer, led the Grey Wolves with 119 tackles and garnered first-team defense honors as a linebacker in 2013.

Clemons said the coaches, the beauty of the campus and the academics sealed the deal to become a Texan.

Now, he’ll have to get used to being teammates with Garrett Gaskamp and Daniel McCants after spending three seasons chancing down the duo when Shoemaker played Killeen.

“It’ll be interesting to see what happens,” Clemons said with a smile.

Perry moves on to the post-graduate program based in Houston.
