Temple girls blanked by Midway
HEWITT — Temple failed to score in a sluggish first half, and Hewitt Midway made the most of its chances in the second half as the Lady Wildcats fell 4-0 Tuesday night.
Temple (4-6, 2-1 District 8-5A) failed to convert on a penalty kick about 10 minutes in the match, and Midway recorded all four of its goals — including a penalty kick and one on a corner kick — after intermission.
“We really didn’t wake up in the first half,” Lady Wildcats coach Royce Mitchel said, “and Midway came out on fire in the second half. They really took advantage of their opportunities.”
Next up for Temple is a home match Friday night against rival Belton.
Belton boys hold off Ellison
KILLEEN — Brandan Coulter scored a hat trick and Ryan Diaz added two goals to lead the Belton boys to a 5-2 win over Killeen Ellison on Tuesday.
The Tigers (4-4-1, 2-1 District 8-5A) took a 3-0 lead into halftime after Coulter scored one unassisted goal and Diaz scored his two unassisted goals in the first half.
Ellison scored two quick goals early in the second half to cut Belton’s advantage to 3-2 before Coulter completed the hat trick with two goals, the first assisted by Alder Barrios and the second by Jose Guzman, to extend the Tigers’ lead.
“We played well in the first half,” Belton coach Tarcisio Mosnia said. “In the second half, maybe having a 3-0 lead we slacked off a bit and the other team gained some momentum. We had to claw back in it.”
The Tigers host Temple on Friday at Wilson-Kerzee Field.
