BELTON — Copperas Cove quarterback Manny Harris was named tournament MVP after the Bulldawgs won their last five games to win the Lone Star Shootout 7-on-7 tournament Saturday.

Cove defeated Georgetown 28-14 in the title game.

Cove finished Friday’s pool play as a No. 3 seed, but held off Elgin 56-51 and Georgetown 48-44 to advance to the final.

Georgetown advanced to the final by beating losers’ bracket champion Leander Vandegrift 52-37.

Earlier in the day, Cove beat China Spring (28-14) and Scurry-Rosser (32-7).

Other area teams in the 14-teamfield were Belton (fourth-place tie), Shoemaker and Ellison (eighth-place tie), Belton No. 2 (10th), Killeen (11th) and Copperas Cove No. 2 (13th).

Cove receiver Davonn Phelps was named offensive MVP.

Belton quarterback Shane Stafford, Cove defensive back Shamad Lomax, Belton linebacker Tevin Jones and Ellison defensive back Kaoss Mack were picked to the all-tournament team.
