AUSTIN — The Harker Heights Knights got their first win of the Austin Baseball Tournament by beating the Del Valle Cardinals 15-4 on Friday at Hyde Park Baptist High School.
Michael Rae Zapata had three hits while Daniel Cole had four RBIs in the win.
The Knights close out the tournament today when they take on Austin Eastside Memorial at 9:30 a.m. at Northwest District Park (7000 Ardath St.) and Georgetown East View at 7:30 p.m. at Garrison Park (6001 Manchaca Rd.).
SHOEMAKER LOSES TO MCCALLUM: At Austin, despite Roberto Delgado’s three RBIs and two hits, the Shoemaker Grey Wolves lost 11-7 to Austin McCallum at Nelson Field.
Wade Cork had five strikeouts in five innings of work on the mound. The Grey Wolves scored five runs in the sixth before their rally fell short.
Shoemaker (6-7) did get a win after Austin Eastside Memorial forfeited its morning game to the Grey Wolves.
Shoemaker concludes the tournament today at the Burger Activity Center (3200 Jones Rd.). The Grey Wolves play Lockhart at 5 p.m. and Hutto at 7:30 p.m.
BUFFALOES SPLIT GAMES AT TOURNAMENT: At Bartlett, the Florence Buffaloes beat the Harker Heights JV 5-2 and lost to Bartlett 7-4 at the Bartlett Tournament.
Against Heights, Peyton Person was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored while Tate Leatherwood was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
Against Bartlett, Dallas Broekhuizen went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Leatherwood was 2 for 3 with an RBI and run scored.
Florence concludes tournament play today.
SALADO 4, FLORENCE 0: At Florence, Salado pitcher Shyenne Hicks struck out seven batters and tossed a two-hitter in a shutout victory.
Reagan Best went 4 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Mackenzie Futrell went 1 for 3 from the plate and struck out four batters.
HARKER HEIGHTS 2, SHOEMAKER 0: At Shoemaker, Gracie Grimm scored both goals as the Lady Knights blanked Shoemaker.
Casey Cox assisted on one of the goals. Caitlin Dumond earned the clean sheet in goal.
WACO MIDWAY 3, KILLEEN 0: At Killeen, Le’Brittany Hodge made 10 saves in a 3-0 loss to Waco Midway.
Sophomore midfielder Madison Metheny and junior defender Kayla Brossard had a strong showing for Killeen (3-13-2, 2-10 District 8-5A) in the loss.
ELLISON 2, TEMPLE 0: At Temple, Ahmad Holt scored with 14:32 left in the first half and the Eagles went on to beat the Wildcats.
William Barbrow played a ball across to the right side of the box that Lateef Alli volleyed into the box to Shabba Armbrister, who scored an insurance goal for Ellison (7-9-3, 6-5-1 8-5A) with 24 minutes remaining.
