WACO — Six of Harker Heights’ 10 entries in the District 8-5A tennis tournament advanced to the semifinals Monday, and all remain in the running for a top-two finish and a berth in the regional tournament next week in Lubbock.

Unseeded freshman Madu Eneli will play for the boys singles crown today at the Waco Regional Tennis Center. He skipped the fall team tennis season to play on the freshman football team.

Sophomore Madison Sieber will face Temple’s Nadia Safri for the girls singles title. Sieber won her semifinal match 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2 against a Waco Midway player.

Playing third-place matches today are Carson Lesperance and Luis Covarrubias (mixed doubles), Tessa Jagodzinksi and Masyn Upchurch (girls doubles), Eric Hamilton and Andrew Loughran (boys doubles) and Hamza Khan (boys singles).

The third-place winners will have a chance to play for second place against the finals losers, provided they didn’t already meet in the semifinals.

Khan is playing Ellison’s Christian Manalang, who lost 7-6 (5), 6-2 to Eneli in the semis.

Ellison’s Tanae Kennedy will also play for third place after losing to Safri in the semifinals.

All matches begin at 9 a.m., with any playback matches to follow.
