WACO — Gatesville’s defense held host Waco Reicher scoreless in all but the third quarter and the Hornets’ offense struck in the other three periods for a dominating 41-9 season-opening victory Friday.

Gatesville senior quarterback Cole Edmiston led the charge through the air, finishing 10-of-20 for 153 yards and a pair of passing touchdowns to go along with a 4-yard score on the ground to start things off midway through the first quarter.

Meanwhile, the Hornets’ defense limited Reicher to just 33 rushing yards on 29 carries for a 1.13 yards-per-carry average, while tailbacks Jake Kee and Matthew Wallace got it done on the ground for Gatesville (1-0), combining for 110 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Wallace.
