Rebecca Horton

After taking a season off to concentrate on her volleyball skills, Florence senior post Rebecca Horton rejoined the Lady Buffs girls basketball team this season.

Her presence has made a difference for the Lady Buffs.

Horton is averaging six points, seven rebounds and three blocks. (The Lady Buffs middle blocker finished with a team-best 286 kills and 31 blocks.)

Horton took her junior season away from the basketball team to play club volleyball. The Lady Buffs look for their first district win Friday at Salado.

How good does it feel to be back on the basketball court?

It does (feel good). I missed it a lot.

Why did you choose to come back to the team as a senior?

It was my senior year and I did not want to skip out on a good sport. I love basketball.

What did you miss most about basketball?

I missed staying after school and practicing. I like practice for any sport. It gets you away from home.

Is there a difference in the preparation for a volleyball match than there is for a basketball game?

I wouldn’t say so. I feel they are basically the same. You do your warm ups and stretches, your standard thing.

Did you start playing one sport and then become interested in the other?

I went to a private school so we started in the fifth grade. I did basketball and volleyball and have been doing both ever since, except for basketball last year.

Do you have a preference for one?

I like them both, but I do prefer volleyball.
