AUSTIN —Shali Simpson had 17 points and 10 of the Lady Buffaloes’ 24 steals as Florence overwhelmed the Lady Knights.
Shelbie Long added nine points for Florence (5-4), which held Hill Country (1-3) to one point in the first half. The Lady Knights trailed 48-2 entering the fourth quarter.
Brooklynne Owens (seven points) and Rebecca Horton and Clarissa Carranco (six each) were the other Lady Buffs to match or exceed the Lady Knights in scoring.
Florence plays twice on Thursday in pool play at the Jarrell tournament, against Bruceville-Eddy (9 a.m.) and Rogers (2:30 p.m.).
COPPERAS COVE 65, LORENA 40: At Lorena, Angel Mullen led three Lady Dawgs in double figures with 14 points and Copperas Cove pounded 3A-No. 11 Lorena.
Bryaunea Hall added 11 points for Cove (4-2). Brittany Gamble finished with 10.
Ashlyn Bell led the Lady Leopards (6-1) with 16 points.
A&M CONSOLIDATED 57, BELTON 31: At College Station, both McKinzee Robinson and Kensey Williams scored eight points, but Belton (3-6) was downed by A&M Consolidated 57-31 on Tuesday.
Belton could not score more than 14 points in any quarter and had just two in the second and four in the fourth.
Consolidated went to the free throw line more frequently, converting 11 of 21 free throws while Belton was 0 for 2.
The Lady Tigers look to rebound at the New Braunfels Tournament on Friday. Belton takes on the New Braunfels Canyon's Cougarettes at noon.
MARBLE FALLS FAITH 66, LOMETA 60: At Marble Falls, Shane Stone scored a game-high 13 points, but No. 18 Lometa (3-3) fell to Marble Falls Faith.
Eric Nichols added 12 points and and Both Ivan Jasso and Pedro De Luna had seven on the night.
WACO UNIVERSITY 58, BELTON 50: At Waco, the Belton Tigers dropped their third straight to open the season.
The Tigers travel to San Angelo for the San Angelo Tournament beginning Thursday. Belton plays San Angelo Central at 5:30 p.m.
