KILLEEN - Someone from the stands called it a crazy 30 seconds.

Actually it was more like 15.

Whatever the case, those 15 seconds made the difference between Ellison holding control over visiting Copperas Cove last Friday and the Lady Bulldawgs swinging the entire game's momentum in their favor.

Cove scored two goals in 15 seconds right before halftime, and the Lady Dawgs flipped places with Ellison in the District 12-5A soccer standings with the 2-1 win.

"I wish I would have drawn it up that way," Cove head coach Hagen Streckel said. "Our deal has been we're half a step away from just doing the wonderful things, getting the ball through a lane and going to goal. That just worked out perfectly."

Down 1-0, the Lady Dawgs corralled an Ellison cross in front of their net and started back the other way. Junior Alyson Sinclair, heading up the middle of the field, found Shelby Campbell all alone in front of the Lady Eagle net. The senior took care of the rest, putting in the goal to tie the game with just 27 seconds left in the first half.

"Our goal all week long has been 'Find a way and do what we need to do,'" Streckel said. "And they found a way tonight."

Just moments later, Cove took the lead. Kristen Grant intercepted an Ellison pass and took off up the left side. She beat the defense and took aim at the far post, putting the ball off the post where it ricocheted into the net.

"I guess the momentum carried it from the first goal," Grant said. "I always go back to try and get the drop and this time she passed it. She had a bad touch and I just tried to get myself in there, work something out and it happened."

Ellison got its goal with 10:10 left in the first half off a corner kick. Katie Vinchensont took the kick from the right side, curling it right into the outstretched arms of Cove goalkeeper Kaitlyn Barrick. But as the junior brought the ball in, she bumped into a defender, knocking it loose and into the goal.

Ellison did get one last chance, nearly sending the game into overtime in the final seconds. Manoela Vieira took a shot in front of the goal, but the ball curved, just missing to give Cove the win.

Ellison 5, Bulldawgs 1 (last Friday) - At Cove, Joseph Ballou had a pair of goals to go with an assist, while Phillip Ruiz tallied two assists as the Eagles knocked off Cove on the road. Adryan Moore scored Cove's goal, tying the game at 1-1 before Ballou found Bruno Ribeiro for the go-ahead score.

Nathan Diederich made it 3-1 at halftime, with Ballou adding his second goal and Brais Lorenzo scoring as well.

Lady Dawgs 3, Bryan 0 (Tuesday) - At Cove, Kristen Grant, Alyson Sinclair and Cheyenne Huereque each scored goals for the Lady Bulldawgs, who won their second straight District 12-5A game.

Huereque, Sinclair and Shelbie Letzer recorded assists in the win.

Bryan 6, Bulldawgs 0 (Tuesday) - At Bryan, visiting Cove had little answer for the Viking attack, falling on the road.
