ABILENE — Deja Pointer finished 4-of-5 from the field and was one of four players with at least 12 points as 5A No. 13 Ellison pulled ahead with a 19-9 third quarter and knocked off 2A-No. 6 Tuscola Jim Ned 59-47 in the championship game of the Polk-Key City Tournament on Saturday.

With her team-high 13 points and five rebounds, Pointer secured all-tournament MVP as the Lady Eagles (13-1) claimed the tourney title for the first time in four years of trying.

“Our kids came out in the third quarter especially and took control,” Ellison coach Sherry McKinnon said. “One of their big goals was to win this tournament after coming the last four years and not getting it.”

Joining Pointer with 13 points were post Brianna Gray and point guard Kenesha Saygo, while sophomore post Jordana Porter added 12 points.
