LAMPASAS — Senior guard Sarah Latham scored a team-high 10 points in her first action of the season and the Gatesville Lady Hornets won their District 8-3A opener on the road, holding off the Lampasas Lady Badgers 34-33 on Friday.

Latham had missed Gatesville’s entire nonconference slate while recovering from a knee injury. She hit two of the Lady Hornets’ three 3-pointers.

Nola Bishop made four 3-pointers and led the Lady Badgers with 15 points.

Gatesville built a 23-13 halftime lead, then had to hold on as the Lady Badgers outscored it 20-11 in the second half.

LEXINGTON 47, FLORENCE 23: At Lexington, Rebecca Horton scored 12 points, but Florence dropped a district road game.

The Lady Buffs (6-13, 1-4 District 22-2A) were outscored 20-7 in the second quarter and trailed by 14 at halftime.

Florence looks to rebound on Tuesday when it hosts Rosebud-Lott.


SALADO 56, JARRELL 55: At Jarrell, the Salado Eagles remained undefeated in district play after a win over Jarrell.

Dane Hankamer had a game-high 22 points for Salado and teammates Kole Hearne scored nine points and Tyler Ramthun eight.

“It was a great game,” said Salado head coach Kenny Mann. “We played great defense in the first quarter. They made a little run before halftime. But we continued to play great defense and, overall, I felt we played really well.”

SHOEMAKER 43, WACO MIDWAY 32: At Shoemaker, Torenzo Saunders scored a game-high 14 points to help the Grey Wolves beat Midway.

The win gives Shoemaker (11-6, 1-2 District 8-5A) its first district win of the season.

Shane Johnson and Nykolas Dawson combined to score 17 points.

Shoemaker looks to make it two district wins in a row on Tuesday when it plays at Belton.

FLORENCE 61, LEXINGTON 27: At Lexington, Wyatt Odom scored a game-high 14 points while Alfredo Pena added 11 to help Florence cruise past Lexington.

Tanner Watson also scored 11 points as the Buffaloes won their second district game.

Florence looks to get another district win on Tuesday when it hosts Rosebud-Lott.

LOMETA 59, LOMETA ALUMNI 57: At Lometa, Ivan Jasso scored a game-high 25 points to help No. 18 Lometa hold back the Lometa Alumni team.

Eric Nichols added 13 points and the Lometa Alumni outscored the current Lometa (11-5) team 25-17 in the fourth quarter.
