HEWITT — Waco Midway rallied from a 5-0 deficit, capped by Will Crooker’s RBI walk-off single with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, to hand Belton a 6-5 loss and claim a share of the District 8-5A lead before a capacity crowd at Panther Field.

Crooker was set up by a walk from Case Smith, whose courtesy runner, Worth Loughlin, went to third on a Harrison Miner single to right before scoring as Crooker was mobbed by his teammates at first base.

The game hinged more on a pivotal pitching decision in the sixth inning and big hitting inning for Midway (12-10, 6-1 8-5A) in the fourth.

In the sixth and Belton (12-10-1, 6-1) holding a 5-4 lead with one out Hunter Jarmon reached on a fielder’s choice followed by walks by Dustin Vasek and Nick Rork. At that point Belton coach Eddie Cornblum had a conference at the mound.

Starting pitcher Jared Janczak remained in the game, but threw a wild pitch that scored Jarmon, and walked Ross Coskrey.

Janczak allowed five earned runs, four hits and seven walks throwing 102 pitches while striking out seven over 5 1/3 innings. Janczak also had four wild pitches.
