BELTON — Five Belton football players took advantage of opportunities to sign with colleges Wednesday.

Justin Murphy signed with Texas Tech in a ceremony at the Belton High School weight room. Also signing were Colby Priest (Trinity Valley Community College), quarterback Joe Flynn (Austin College), safety Malik Green (Maryville College) and receiver Andre Ewing (Texas A&M-Commerce).

Murphy, who is 6-foot-6 and weighs 280 pounds, lived up to a commitment he made in June. He was sought by Football Bowl Subdivision programs such as Oklahoma State and Rice as well, but Murphy never wavered in his choice. Murphy paved the way for an offense that averaged 30.9 points per game in 2013.

“I’m definitely happy and relieved it’s over. I’m ready to move on to the next level,” Murphy said. “It was definitely easy to stick with it. I loved Tech ever since committing this summer.”
