Robert Griffin III can add a new title to resume — designer.

Copperas Cove’s most famous athlete recently revealed via Facebook and Twitter he donated new uniforms to the entire football program prior to the season.

Not only did Griffin pay for all the attire, he personalized it as well.

Teaming up with Bulldawgs offensive coordinator Tracy Welch, the duo designed the uniforms the team has been wearing throughout the first five games of the season.

Along with 2012 Pro Bowl teammate and former Bulldawg Charles Tillman, who provided the entire team with new helmets, the gesture humbled Copperas Cove head coach Jack Welch.

“(I was) very pleased that former players want to give back to their institution and to the program they came from,” he said. “It’s an honor to see they still think about you and care you.”

The Washington Redskins second-year quarterback used his connections with sponsor Adidas to manufacture more than 200 complete uniforms, including everything from the socks and shoes to jerseys and chinstraps. The value of furnishing all freshmen, junior varsity and varsity players is approximately $80,000.

It was worth every penny, according to Griffin.

“Giving back to where it all started!,” he posted on his social media accounts along with a photo of the new uniform. “Happy to support My Dawgs!”

Equipment grant

This is not the first time Copperas Cove was the recipient of a gracious gift from one of its high-profile alumni.

Tillman, a cornerback for the Chicago Bears, donated a $3,000 equipment grant to the school in March, and his generosity has extended beyond Copperas Cove’s city limits.

Last October, Tillman unveiled the Charles Tillman Locker, which his Cornerstone Foundation donated to Fort Hood’s Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. The locker was filled with portable DVD players and DVDs for patients and visitors to use while at the hospital.

“When they’re in a position to make donations, they do so,” Welch said. “It’s heartwarming.”
