At Austin, Killeen lost Austin High and 5-1 to Austin McCallum on the first day of the Austin ISD tournament.
Killeen (2-8) had three bad innings defensively and totalled just 10 hits combined in the two games.
Austin plated four runs in the fifth inning and added five in the sixth in the Maroons’ 9-2 win. McCallum put up four runs in the fourth inning and held Killeen to just three hits in its 5-1 win over the Roos.
Doug Bell was 2 for 2 with an RBI and Garrett Gaskamp was 1 for 3 with RBI against Austin. Daniel Vega was also 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored.
Against McCallum, Rene Ramirez, John Rechtorovic and Chris Barber all singled for Killeen’s three hits.
After McCallum took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, Ramirez tied the game when he scored on an error, but the Knights’ big fourth inning was too much for Killeen overcome.
The Roos led Austin 2-0 after the fourth inning but couldn’t hang on.
Killeen plays Austin Travis tonight at 7:30 p.m. and Austin Lanier on Saturday.
