No. 24 Salado wasn’t able to take home its own tournament title, falling to Leander in the Coach Smith Tournament final.

But the Eagles took one in Hamilton on Saturday in convincing fashion, defeating Goldthwaite 68-52 in the Ted Jones Tournament championship.

The win was a nice way to lead into to district play for the Eagles, who open the 22-2A season on the road Tuesday against Lexington.

The tournament title capped an eventful week for the Eagles as senior Dane Hankamer, who scored 20 points in the win against Goldthwaite, was KDHPressbox.com Player of the Week on Thursday for his efforts in the Coach Smith Tournament.

Senior point guard Kase Spears, who had 14 points against Goldthwaite, was named MVP of the Ted Jones Tournament, and fellow senior Kyle Heiner was named to the all-tournament team.

Salado is 14-3 on the season.
