LAMPASAS — Salado held a two-goal advantage but refused to rest.

After scoring a pair of unanswered goals in the first half, the Eagles finished strong to earn a 5-0 road victory against Lampasas, improving to 7-1 in the District 34-4A standings, while ruining the Badgers’ senior night festivities.

Maintaining a high intensity level was not easy, though, according to Salado head coach Michael Goos.

“It was very important to stay focused,” he said. “Lampasas came out after its halftime, senior night stuff, and they were more amped up then they were at the beginning. So we really had to answer to them.”

And the Eagles did.

Following Chase Crenwelge’s two-goal outburst in the first half, Tristan Bragg recorded a pair of goals in the second half with the first occurring less than five minutes elapsed from the clock.

Goos believes the goal set the tone for the shutout victory.

“They came out ready to get back in that game,” he said. “That goal really sealed it for us and gave us the cushion we needed to finish.”

Salado punctuated its win with Christian Martinez’s goal with 15 minutes left in the match.

Lampasas, which secured a postseason berth by beating defending-district champion Brownwood earlier in the week, fell to 5-3, ending the Badgers’ four-match winning streak, stretching back to their 8-0 loss to Salado in the first round.

“We knew what we had to do, we had a game plan, and the kids stuck with it,” Goos said.
