SALADO — Salado’s defense was strong all game, holding Little River-Academy to 12-for-39 (30.7 percent) shooting from the field and forcing the Bumblebees to make 25 turnovers as the Eagles rolled to a 70-36 victory. The win keeps No. 13 Salado in a tie for first place in 22-2A with No. 14 Jarrell.

During a stretch of 11 minutes and 29 seconds that bridged the second and third quarters, Salado (22-7, 10-1 22-2A) outscored Academy 31-4. This included a 17-0 run to open the second half in which Austin Adams scored six of his nine points in the run.

“I like what we did with our transition defense. It led to some baskets,” Salado coach Kenny Mann said. “This group showed they are really mentally tough.”

Junior guard Kase Spears was the only player to finish in double figures with 13 points. Salado rebounded after dropping a 57-55 overtime thriller at No. 14-ranked Jarrell on Tuesday.

“I think we were able to put the Jarrell loss in the past that night,” Adams said. “We know if we keep winning we can play Jarrell again for the district championship.”
