JARRELL — A dozen members of the Salado girls track team soared past the competition from District 16-2A and into the area meet on Wednesday. 

The Lady Eagles won the district championship, advancing seven individuals in nine events and three relay teams.

The top four individuals or relay team finishers in each event advance to the area meet Thursday at McGregor to take on the best from District 15-2A.

The top four in each event at the area meet advance to the Region II-2A meet April 24-26.

Salado won the girls district title with 140 total points, 16 ahead of runner-up Cameron-Yoe.

The Florence boys placed fourth in the district with 84 while Salado finished sixth with 66.

Morgan Hill was Salado’s top hurdler after winning gold in the girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.77 seconds and the 300 hurdles with a time of 49.17. She also qualified for the area meet with a long jump of 15 feet, 8 inches.

Katey Ewton took first place in the 1,600 (5:42.68) and was fourth in the 3,200 (13:11.61). Averi Fisher was the girls pole vault winner after clearing 10 feet.

Rachel Hildebrand won the district shot put title (41-7¾) by 6 feet and placed second in the discus (117-11). Brittany Vooreman is an area qualifier in the discus (101-0½).

Ashley Adams finished second in the girls 1,600 (5:42.70) while Maddie Graham was third in the pole vault (9-0) and Meagan Hill was fourth in the 300 hurdles (52.24).

Meagan and Graham joined Abby Quick and Molly Colvin to finish third in the 800 relay (1:50.79).

The team of Adams, Sara Wilkerson, Tabetha Mazo and Ariana Rangel (4:18.46) placed third in the 1,600 relay.

Quick and Colvin joined the Hills on the 400 relay team that finished fourth (51.21).

Florence boys advance seven

The Florence Buffaloes advanced seven members of their boys track team in eight events and one relay team to the area track meet Wednesday.

Cross country state qualifier Alfredo Pena took first place in the boys 3,200 run (10:35.48).

Jacob Navarro is a multiple qualifier after placing third in the discus (130-0) and fourth in the shot put (49-1½).

Christian Gomez was the runner-up in the discus (145-0½) as was Zach Shelton in the pole vault (13-0).

Bradley Koenig finished third in the 400 (52.56) while Grayson Decker and Pattrick Vasquez finished fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.05) and discus (126-11), respectively.

Koenig and Pena teamed with Luis Olalde and Joseph Ramirez to finish third in the 1600 relay (3:37.89).

Simmons dominates throwing events

Ryan Simmons was the star of the throwing events after winning the shot put by more than 3 feet (53-3½) and the discus by more than 23 feet (168-8).

The Salado boys track team qualified six individuals in eight events for the area meet.

Preston Kimbrough is the other multiple qualifier after finishing fourth in the 1,600 (4:59.69) and 3,200 (11:01.31) runs. Peyton Womack finished one spot behind Simmons in the shot put (49-6½) while Daniel Thoreson took third in the 1,600 (4:54.30).

Daniel Lemus and Tyler Ramthun finished fourth in the 800 run (2:10.83) and high jump (5-10), respectively.
