And for the first time since winning the third of three straight 2A state titles in 2009, the Eagles are headed back to state after carding a team with a two-day total of 693 to finish second at the Region II-2A boys golf tournament Thursday at the Legends Golf Club in Stephenville.
As a team, Salado shot a 354, 15 strokes off of their Day 1 pace of 339, and finished six strokes behind champion Whitesboro, which also struggled with a Day 2 round of 352.
After finishing Day 1 in second place with a 75, junior Dane Hankamer shot an 84 to finish in fourth with a two-day 159.
Kase Spears carded four strokes better than his Day 1 total and finished with a two-day 174, while Kyle Heiner (7th) overshot his Day 1 total by 12 strokes and carded a two-day 170 after finishing Wednesday tied for fifth with a 79.
Brandon Womac shot a two-day 190 and Javier Cruz-Cortes equaled his Day 1 tally with a two-day 204.
