No. 17 Lometa cools off HEAT at tournament


At Wichita Falls, Lometa ended the Fantasy of Lights Tournament on a good note with a 48-33 win over the Wichita Falls Home Educators Around Texoma team on Saturday.

Eric Nichols scored a game-high 22 points while Ivan Jasso added eight to help Lometa rebound from two consecutive losses on Friday.

Lometa is currently the 17th-ranked team in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 1A, Division II poll. The Hornets visit Marble Falls Faith on Tuesday.

Salado falls in tourney final: At Wichita Falls, the Salado Eagles (6-2) made a run for the Fantasy of Lights Tournament championship, but came up one win short.

Despite 12 points from Preston Rosebrock, the No 24 Eagles fell to Pantego 61-52 in the championship game on Saturday.

Salado got to the title game by defeating Holliday 63-53 in the tournament semifinals. Kyle Heiner led the way with 19 points while Kase Spears and Kole Hearne added 10 points apiece.

The Eagles beat Petrolia 78-42 and Haskell 67-42 during bracket play on Friday. Salado hosts the Coach Smith Tournament starting Thursday.
