Shoemaker senior Maya Little had one last run during her time as a Lady Wolves wrestler.

Little took fourth place in the girls 128-pound division at the University Interscholastic League’s Class 5A State Wrestling Tournament over the weekend at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.

Little was among 12 wrestlers from Shoemaker, Killeen, Ellison and Copperas Cove to compete for a state title.

She had the deepest championship bracket run of any area grappler. Little opened the tournament with a win over Arlington’s Elizabeth Taylor then pinned Houston Bellaire’s Darla Allen in 5:46 to get to the state semifinal match. Little was defeated by Felicity Bryant of Amarillo Tascosa.

Little defeated Converse Judson’s Jazmyn Tolber in the consolation bracket before losing to Allen in the third-place match.

Killeen’s K.J. Harris, Ellison’s Darnell Brown and Shoemaker’s Harmony Maitland and Anne Ford each won their opening round match.

Harris defeated Lewisville Herbon’s Jerhett Lee before falling to Houston Cypress Creek’s Shawn Andrew on a 3-2 decision in the 185-pound division. He also pined Ellison’s Garrett Hall in 2:59 before falling to Austin Anderson’s Jacob Valadez in the consolation bracket.

Brown beat Fort Worth Paschall’s Trelin Wright 7-3 in the opening round, but fell to Jacon Weingrad 10-6. He lost his next match in the consolation bracket to Grand Prairie’s Donovan Brown.

Maitland opened the state meet with a 15-4 win over Houston Cypress Springs’ Siandra Amaya in the 165-pound division. She fell to Amarillo Tascosa’s Destiny Gallegos in the championship bracket and Coppell’s Leisa Hernandez in the consolation bracket.

Ford opened the 185-pound championship bracket by pinning Plano East’s Adelita Munoz in 2:32. Ford was eliminated from championship contention after losing to Houston Cypress Ridge’s Mashyrah Rayson 2-0 and lost her consolation match to Grand Prairie’s Marysol Ipina.

Killeen’s Debra Moore made a run for third place after losing her 215-pound opening round match to Arlington Sam Houston’s DeOnna Byrd. Moore won four straight consolation matches before being pinned by Houston Cypress Springs’ Ashley Johnson in the third-place match.

Cove’s Lane Teeter finished the weekend with a 2-2 record in the 106-pound division. Teeter lost his opening-round match to Zach Mortus of Kady Seven Lakes, but defeated Keller Central’s Ryan Linberg in the consolation round.

Hall opened the 185-pound championship tournament with a loss over McKinney Boyd’s Matt Morse. He beat Arlington Martin’s Nick Shamghourne in the consolation round before losing to Harris.

Shoemaker’s Khalil Bryant went 0-2 in the 182-pound division. He lost his opening round match to Allen’s Tracy Eitel and was defeated by Houston Westside’s Daniel Kilzer in the consolation round.

Fellow Grey Wolf Darnell Everett was defeated by Klein’s Michael Oramas and Plano West’s Cole Williams in the 152-pound division’s opening and consolation rounds, respectively.

Ellison’s Darius Fulgham competed in the 220-pound division and was defeated by Fossil Ridge’s Keith McGee in the opening round and Grand Prairie’s Jordan Hebert in the consolation round.
