Slow start to district soccer

Both Copperas Cove soccer teams got off a rough start to open District 12-5A play Monday. The Bulldawgs were blanked by Belton on the road, while the Lady Dawgs got a Shelbie Letzer goal, but also lost by seven.

Over the weekend, the Lady Dawgs went 0-1-2 at the Chick-Fil-A Lady Lobo Invitational in Longview.

Here's a recap of the action:

Belton 7, Bulldawgs 0 (Monday) - At Belton, the Tigers scored three goals in the first 12 minutes and dominated the Bulldawgs to opened 12-5A play. Tayron Martin had two goals and Garret Patterson had four assists in the win.

Belton also got goals from Tyler Pate, Logan Hellinghausen, Angel Hernandez, Luke Villamaria and Tim Hagen. Cameron Cooper and Hellinghausen both had assists.

Belton 8, Lady Dawgs 1 (Monday) - At Copperas Cove, Carina Dunahoo had her second straight hat trick and the Lady Tigers picked up where they left off last year, dominating their 12-5A competition.

Junior Hadley Young added two goals and Bekah Rush and Jennifer Kennick both added goals.

Jaime Boone had three assists for the Lady Tigers. Shelbie Letzer scored the lone goal for Copperas Cove off an assist from Jessica Vick.

Lady Lobo Invitational - The Lady Dawgs got two goals from senior Kristen Grant, but dropped both pool-play games in the Lady Lobo Invitational last Friday.

Cove dropped its opener 5-1 to The Woodlands College Park, and followed with a 7-1 loss to Tyler Lee.

The Lady Dawgs and Mount Pleasant played to a 2-2 tie to open the tournament Jan. 27, getting goals from Genesis Rivera and Alyson Sinclair.
