The University Interscholastic League altered the area’s sports landscape Thursday morning, releasing its biennial reclassification and realignment.
Killeen ISD schools Killeen, Ellison, Harker Heights and Shoemaker will now comprise District 12-6A along with rivals from District 8-6A in Belton, Copperas Cove and Waco Midway.
But the programs will also be reuniting with some old foes.
Temple and Waco join the district after being moved up from Class 5A.
The district will remain the same in all sports for the next two school years.
In the smaller classifications, for football, Lampasas will compete in District 14-4A, Division I against Burnet, Liberty Hill, Taylor and new additions Comal Canyon Lake and Fredericksburg, while Gatesville moves to District 5-4A, Division I with Brownwood, China Spring, Stephenville and Waco La Vega.
Salado will play against Fairfield, Lorena, Madisonville, Mexia, Robinson and Waco Connally in District 8-4A, Division II.
In basketball realignment, which typically reflects all other sports, Lampasas and Salado are part of District 27-4A with Austin Eastside Memorial, Burnet, Liberty Hill and Taylor. Gatesville is part of District 18-4A with China Spring, Lorena, Robinson, Connally and La Vega.
Florence football now competes in District 8-3A, Division II with Clifton, Hamilton, Lexington and Rogers.
In basketball, Florence is part of District 25-3A with Blanco, Jarrell, Johnson City LBJ, Lago Vista and Manor New Tech. Additionally, Georgetown Gateway boys will also be part of the district.
