Brooke Gilmore dominated the field and helped the Belton Lady Tigers take first place in the Class 5A-6A competition at the Hewitt Kiwanis Midway Invitational on Thursday. 

Gilmore was the top finisher in the 4,850-meter race, posting a time of 18 minutes, 14.44 seconds to win by more than 30 seconds.

The Lady Tigers had five runners finish in the top 25 and had a total team time of 1 hour, 38 minutes, 58.38 seconds. Harker Heights (1:43:38.77) took fourth in the girls 5A-6A race, Copperas Cove (1:49:09.79) finished sixth, Killeen (1:53.:18.55) took seventh and Ellison (1:53:39.48) was eighth.

The Gatesville boys took second (1:30:45.12) in the Class 1A-4A race while Lometa (1:44:57.44) came in 13th.

The Lady Hornets took fourth with 128 team points while Lometa came in 13th with 390.

The Belton boys (1:27:35.34) placed fifth, Ellison (1:28:05.51) was sixth, Harker Heights (1:28:05.44) came in eighth, Killeen (1:30:27.89) was 10th, Copperas Cove (1:33:56.16) was 11th and Shoemaker (1:33:55.99) came in 13th.

Along with Gilmore, Olivia Houlden, Macy Niemi, Alissa Johnson and Jayne Myron were in the top 22. Houlden (18:53.71) took third, Niemi (20:21.75) came in 13th, Johnson (20:42.68) finished 20th and Myron (20:45.80) was 22nd.

Nick Anderson (16:38.59) helped the Hornets by taking third in the boys 1A-4A competition. Rhett Gore (18:06.15) finished ninth, Bailey Ivy (18:3.24) finished 21st and Juan Martinez (18:34.59) came in 23rd.

The Lady Knights had three top-25 finishers: fourth-place Leslie Hardy (19:31.69), 19th-place Charlotte Fleming (20:42.06) and 21st-place Breanna Younger (20:43.77).

The Class 1A-4A girls race was a 3,150-meter run and Jordan Brock led the Lady Hornets with an eighth-place finish, Cassidy Norwood took 24th and Kiana Taff was 25th.

Logan Zwerneman (16:49.97) was the top Tiger finisher at ninth, and teammate Cristhian Loyola (17:07.88) placed 18th.

Ellison’s Juan Espaillat (16:50.97) and Josh Branch (17:26.03) finished 11th and 23rd in the boys 5A-6A race, respectively.

Amber Boyd (19:35.84) led Copperas Cove with a fifth-place finish in the girls 5A-6A race.

Amira Lambertis (20:02.83) was the top Lady Kangaroo finisher coming in ninth.

The Knights had Zach Dungan (16:30.22) and Joseph Galvan (16:35.15) finish back-to-back in fifth and sixth place in the 5A-6A boys race. Ashton Cherizard (21:35.14) was the Ellison girls top finisher.

Cinque Sambula (17:17.78) led the Roos with a 21st-place finish. Pasquall Della Fera (17:15.91) was the top Bulldawg finisher and placed 20th.

Tyler Gallien led the Shoemaker boys with a time of 18:00.34.

Andrew Arellano was the top Lometa boys finisher with a time of 19:04.54 and Sara Luning was the first Lady Hornet to cross the finish line.

Shoemaker’s Mikayla Koester (20:38.95) finished 16th in the girls 5A-6A race while teammate Kristen Nelson (20:40.31) placed 17th.
