Xavier Nix scored a career-high 23 points and the Lampasas Badgers finished the game on a 32-10 run to rout Taylor 75-56 at home Friday and clinch the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.

The Badgers (23-9, 7-4A 19-4A) trailed by as much as nine on three different occasions as the Ducks (2-9 19-4A) took a 46-43 lead entering the final period.

“Our style began to wear on them,” said Lampasas coach Aaron Nuckles, who has the Badgers in the postseason in his debut season at his alma mater. “We cut it to three, and then in the fourth we just wore them down.”

Kyle Sims added 20 points and seven rebounds for Lampasas, which will face District 20-4A’s No. 2 seed — Navasota or Giddings — in the first round of the playoffs.

Nix grabbed 12 boards.

BELTON 81, COPPERAS COVE 73: Kiron Griffin scored 30 points, and Dontori Lott added 18 as the Tigers edged closer to a playoff berth.

The Tigers (7-6 District 8-6A) are in a three-way tie with Harker Heights and Shoemaker for third place and the final two playoff spots. Belton is hosting Heights in Tuesday's season finale, meaning the winner will clinch one of the playoff tickets. The loser will need help, including a Shoemaker loss, to get into a fourth-place tiebreaker.

Shoemaker, an 85-61 winner over San Angelo Central in their home finale, can clinch a playoff spot with a win at Killeen (6-7), which also has an outside chance at the fourth-place tiebreaker.
