The Rogers Eagles scored 21 unanswered points after an early 6-6 tie and went on to beat the Florence Buffaloes 35-14 in District 13-3A, Div. II action Friday in Florence.
The win created a four-way logjam for second place behind district-leading Lexington with one week remaining. Rogers, Florence, Blanco and Johnson City are all 2-2 in district play. The Buffaloes close the season Friday at third-ranked Lexington.
CJ Giddens had a hand in both Florence touchdowns, tossing a scoring pass to Jacob Cox and running for a 6-yard TD.
Cox's TD grab tied the game at 6 early in the second quarter. But the Buffaloes fell behind 27-6 before Giddens scored with 11:52 remaining.
That was plenty of time for a comeback, but Rogers' Jordan Riley returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.
Giddens led Florence (4-5) with 115 yards rushing. He was 14-of-34 passing for 155 yards and an interception. Cox led the Buffs with three catches for 62 yards.
Rogers improved to 5-4 overall.
