Hollie Ellis homered twice and drove in four runs, and the 16th-ranked Florence softball team routed Comfort 12-2 in five innings Tuesday in Florence, setting up a District 25-3A championship showdown Friday in Blanco.

Madi Hill was 3 for 4 with a triple, double and two RBIs for Florence (13-6-1, 10-1 25-3A). Bailey Owens had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Lainey Stone also had two hits and drove in two runs.

Emily Gray earned the win in the circle, allowing just two hits and striking out 12.

After a scoreless inning and a half, Florence took the lead for good with a four-run second inning.

Comfort scored both its runs in the third to pull within 4-2, but the Lady Buffs answered with one in the bottom half of the frame and two more in the fourth. The game ended on the 10-run mercy rule when Florence plated a fifth run in the bottom of the fifth.

Friday's game against No. 25 Blanco, also 10-1 in 25-3A, is set for 6 p.m.

Florence won the first meeting 13-10 on March 27 in Florence.

Two Heights tennis players eliminated in 2nd round of regional

Two Harker Heights tennis players won their opening matches before they were eliminated in the second round at the Region I-6A tennis tournament Tuesday at Texas-Arlington.

Madu Eneli rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 win in boys singles over DeSoto's Silas Sandles before losing 6-1, 6-1 to McKinney's John Edwards.

The unseeded Edwards went on to claim a spot in today's championship match.

Killeen's William Duran dropped his opening match, 6-2, 6-1, to Midland's Nick Martinez.

In girls singles, Heights' Faith Johnson outlasted San Angelo Central's Grace Gideon 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5) to advance to the second round where she was ousted by No. 2 seed Daniela Padron-Castillo, of Duncanville, 6-0, 6-0. Padron-Castillo will also play for the championship today.

Belton's Kenzie Danielle lost her opener to No. 4 seed Isabella Zambrano, of El Paso Franklin, 7-5, 6-0.

In boys doubles, Belton's Brandon Huckabee and Brandon Ueckert lost a heartbreaker, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (6) against Irving MacArthur in their opening match
