The Copperas Cove boys track team won four events and opened the season by winning the weather-shortened Crabtree Classic hosted by Mansfield High School on Saturday.

Inclement weather limited the competition to field events and the 3,200-meter run.

The Bulldawgs edged Mansfield by half a point in the team standings, 51.5-51. Mansfield Timberview (24) was a distant third in the eight-team field of teams primarily from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Kyle Stifflemire cleared 14 feet, 6 inches to dominate the pole vault field. He won by 2 feet.

Tommy Connell topped the long jump event with a top effort of 20-1¼.

Micah Hawkes easily won the triple jump with his top leap of 42--2¾.

Jaylon Brown dominated in the discus with a throw of 136-4 that was more than 12 feet ahead of the runner-up. Stifflemire was sixth, earning the Dawgs a crucial point.
