The Shoemaker boys enjoyed a successful first day at the Mansfield ISD Tournament on Thursday, as they went 2-0 with victories over Summit and Bryan Rudder.
Led by Jwan Roberts’ 19 points, the Grey Wolves topped Summit in Game 1, 57-47.
Devyn Brewton recorded 12 points for Shoemaker, and Duwain Thomas added 10.
Against Rudder, Shoemaker dominated by the score of 71-48.
The Wolves (3-1) had 10 players score points in the contest, and they were led by Brewton’s 16 points. Javon Levi tallied 11 points of his own, and Christopher Barnett added 10.
The following are results of other area teams competing Thursday:
KILLEEN 73, SAN ANTONIO SAM HOUSTON 69 OT: At San Antonio, Montego Muckelvaney scored a team-high 21 points, connecting on a pair of 3-pointers, and teammate Thomas Robinson added 10 as the Kangaroos won their opener at the South San Antonio tournament.
With the victory, Killeen (4-1) advances to play San Antonio Clark at noon today in the second round of the 32-team tournament. Should the Kangaroos win, they would most likely face Class 6A No. 1 San Antonio Wagner at 6 p.m.
The tournament concludes Saturday.
DAWGS CRUISE THROUGH SUBWAY CLASSIC POOL PLAY: At Marble Falls, Copperas Cove won both of its opening-day games in impressive fashion, beating the host Mustangs and San Antonio Edison by a combined 64 points.
The Bulldawgs began play in the Purple Pool with a 81-37 win against Marble Falls before defeating the Golden Bears 73-53.
Copperas Cove (3-2) concludes pool play at 1 p.m. today against Elgin with its seeding in bracket play later in the day determined by the outcome.
FLORENCE 70, HOLLAND 50: At Holland, Florence opened tournament play by beating the host Hornets 70-50 without making a single 3-point shot
C.J. Giddens spearheaded the Buffaloes (4-0) with 21 points, followed by Martin Quenga with 17, and Zack Pluhar and Landon Byrne registered eight points apiece. Matthew Edgar added seven points, as well.
Florence was 12 of 23 from the free-throw line, while Holland was just 4 of 11.
DESOTO 50, KILLEEN 47: At Arlington, Shianne Johnson led Killeen with 21 points, but the Lady Kangaroos were unable to overcome DeSoto in a tight 50-47 decision in their tournament opener in the Arlington Classic.
Killeen (5-5) led 16-13 after one quarter of play and 24-23 at halftime, but the Lady Eagles replied with a 27-23 second half to win by three.
Both Jacen Moore and Manesha Knox tallied seven points for the Lady Roos, and Alexus Sharkley chipped in with four points of her own.
